In the Spring of 2011, I found myself in a truly unique position. I had made the decision to resign from my “big girl” job after having my second babe and for the first time since I was a wee adolescent, I found myself without a job. I was as free as a bird…well…as free as you can be with a 1 and a 3 year old, but you catch my drift. While I wanted to stay at home and be a mama to my beautiful babes, I wanted something for myself too. I grew up in a home where dessert was always kicking around (my mama can whip up a mean chocolate cake in no time flat) but funny enough, I never wanted anything to do with the kitchen – I was far too busy chasing a basketball. Once out on my own though, I found I wanted to start creating the delicious desserts I grew up on and testing new ones. I got dubbed “the dessert queen” from the many desserts I brought to gatherings to pawn off on my ever-so-ready-to volunteer family and friends. After I had my first baby, I started to make specialty birthday cakes and cupcakes for their parties and after a while, found I kinda had a knack for it. So I decided to dip my toes in the local farmers market to see if I could find some actual paying victims. I started to really love creating in the kitchen and I found a new joy in being a part of so many wonderful peoples special occasions and daily lives. All of a sudden, my dream and thoughts of being able to stay at home with my babies, while running a small business on the side turned into a reality! Thanks so much for taking the time to check out Sugar Bakeshop. I hope one day that I can add a little “Sugar” to your special day.
